When Jenni was 13, her mother revealed to her that she had been conceived in rape. Her mother had been 18-years-old when she was raped by another teen who had been “dared” to do it. Jenni’s mother soon discovered she was pregnant but was discouraged from continuing with the pregnancy. The only advice she was given was to discard the “products of conception.”
Despite the lack of support, Jenni’s mother decided to have her baby and Jenni was born. However, in school, hearing people argue for abortion in cases of rape always brought her enormous pain. However, she notice a change when she would tell her friends her story and they were able to put a face to the situation and see her not as a faceless “rape baby.”
Jenni says of her experience, “Needless to say, I am eternally grateful that she heeded that still, small voice in her heart that told her the life growing within her had a purpose and did not deserve death.”
